Anime-zing! FAQ
About QC Anime-zing!
What is QC Anime-zing!?
QC Anime-zing! is a gathering of fans of Japanese animation, manga, and cosplay. The convention, run by and for fans, is an educational and fun-filled experience in which attendees can celebrate various aspects of Japanese arts and culture. It is a place for fans to gather in the Quad Cities for a three day convention to enjoy
events, special
guests, and beyond.
What can I expect at QC Anime-zing!
There are over fifty different events every year. The biggest events are the cosplay masquerade and the guest of honor panels, and many people also enjoy browsing our dealer's merchandise. We encourage attendees to enjoy cosplaying (costumed roleplaying as an anime character) throughout the convention, and almost half our attendees do come in costume. Other events include panels (talks/Q&As about your favorite shows), video game tournaments, board games, role playing games, autograph sessions, along with several other unique events. Check the convention program book for descriptions of some of these events, and visit our
events page.
Do I have to include the exclamation point in QC Anime-zing!?
Yes, definitely! :)
How old is QC Anime-zing!?
QC Anime-zing! happened for the first time in 2010, with over 400 attendees. QC Anime-zing! 2011 had 581 attendees at the RiverCenter, and was technically our 5th convention because we run several of them.
What makes QC Anime-zing! special?
We want to be a really exciting, energized convention - one that you never forget. That's kind of what our name and electric logo symbolizes. Unlike some conventions we will have a ConSuite, with Ramen, rice, and snacks, to keep you energized between meals. We have a concert Saturday evening, and lots more fun events. People usually say our conventions are more fun than they've ever experienced.

Costuming Information
What is cosplay?
Cosplay ("costume play") is dressing as though you were an anime character, often assuming that characters persona (acting!). Cosplay is one of the biggest parts of most anime conventions, and costumes from all ranges of media, including video games, cartoons, anime, TV shows, and Japanese fashion are all encouraged.
What is the Masquerade?
The Masquerade, given a special name because "Cosplay" happens all over the convention, is an on-stage event that gives cosplayers the opportunity to show off their costumes and performances.
Can I cosplay outside of the Masquerade?
Absolutely! In fact, it's highly encouraged. Keep in mind there are reasonable limits to what you can wear: no nudity, swords must be tied shut, no projectile weapons, etc. Be careful about large props or bulky costumes, because some parts of the convention have low ceilings.
Events & Activities
Is QC Anime-zing! going to have a dance?
Yes, we have rave dances each night and we usually also have at least one formal dance.
Will QC Anime-zing! have a ConSuite?
We sure will! We'll make sure to load you up on free pop and whatever else we can supply (like Rice or Ramen). Remember to eat actual meals regularly also, as the ConSuite will have a distinct lack of Proteins and other essential nutrients.
Why is the rum gone?
We're not sure, but we are investigating.
How can I share my idea for a panel?
Lots of people have ideas for panels - go talk about them on
our forums! If you would like to volunteer to run a panel, scroll down to the volunteer section.
Volunteering
How can I volunteer?
You can ask at the convention, or you can apply to
join staff and we'll work hard to get you all the information you need. "Volunteers" are the people who work at the con to check badges at doors, deliver food to staff, and provide the extra hands-on-deck that we need to run things smoothly.
How can I run a panel?
We have a special
programming form just for you! Fill it out and our programming head will contact you.
What does it mean to be on staff?
Staff are the volunteers that work before the con to make the convention happen. We spend at least one Saturday each month at a staff meeting, and regularly work on planning and coordinating the convention. The many benefits to joining staff include: little sleep, constant work, new friends, and the admiration of hundreds of happy fans.
